Do I Really Need a Counselor for My International Application Process?
Yes. The international university admissions process for studying abroad is very different from applying to a university in Latin America. Requirements, deadlines, and application formats vary widely, and there are thousands of universities worldwide (just in the United States, over 3,900 institutions are offering undergraduate programs).
Having a certified counselor through our Admission Counseling service helps you make strategic decisions, choose universities aligned with your profile, and present your best self as an applicant. Competition is global: for example, the University of California, Berkeley receives over 120,000 freshman applications in a single admissions cycle. With Educa’s guidance, we strengthen your academic and extracurricular profile to increase your chances of being admitted to the world’s most prestigious universities.
Our more than 15 years of experience providing Admission Counseling in Latin America, along with international certifications, support the results we have achieved.

What Is the Difference Between a Counselor and an Educational Agent?
At Educa College Prep, we work as independent counselors, not agents. This distinction is crucial for families seeking honest and strategic guidance in the international admissions process.
An independent counselor works solely for the student and their family. They design a personalized plan based on the student’s talents, interests, and goals, exploring the full universe of universities in the United States, Canada, Europe, and other regions. There are no predetermined lists or hidden agendas: our only loyalty is to the student.
An educational agent, on the other hand, represents a limited group of universities that pay commissions for each student enrolled. These universities usually seek agents because they do not receive a high volume of applications and need additional international representation. This creates several limitations:
• The agent only recommends from their restricted list, without truly evaluating options that align with the student’s profile.
• There is a natural bias toward institutions that pay commissions, rather than those that offer the best academic opportunity.
• Many agents use aggressive marketing strategies, such as “guaranteeing scholarships” to all their clients. In practice, these “scholarships” are often promotional discounts that do not reflect true academic merit.
At Educa, since we do not receive commissions from any university, we can guarantee that every recommendation is genuine, ethical, and strategic. Our work is backed by international certifications and participation in global admissions organizations, ensuring the quality and transparency of our service.

Which Countries Does Educa College Prep Serve?
At Educa College Prep, we support students and families from all across Latin America from our regional hub in Panama. For more than 15 years, we have advised students from countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Our experience in Admission Counseling and the SAT Prep Course allows us to understand the unique characteristics of each educational system in the region and tailor each applicant’s strategy so that they can present a competitive application to elite universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
With over 3200 students advised in international admissions, 3,500+ prepared through SAT Prep, and more than US$55 million in scholarships obtained, Educa College Prep has established itself as a leading consultancy for university admissions in Latin America.
If you live in Latin America and want to apply to universities abroad, schedule a free consultation and learn how we can support you from your country.
Do You Only Work with Universities in the United States?
No. Although most of our students apply to universities in the United States, at Educa College Prep, we also support admissions processes in Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and other regions of the world.
Our team has specialized training in international Admission Counseling, including programs at the University of Oxford (focused on Europe, the UK, and Canada) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) (focused on U.S. admissions). This allows us to design up-to-date strategies for each educational system and guide students toward globally prestigious institutions.
It is important to note that we work exclusively with universities that offer programs in English, as these institutions concentrate the most competitive academic and scholarship opportunities internationally. We do not handle admissions processes for universities within Latin America, since our focus is on opening pathways to higher education abroad.
At Educa, our mission is for every Latin American student to find the English-language university that best matches their talents and aspirations, maximizing their chances for admission and professional development.
If your goal is to study in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, or Europe, speak with a counselor to explore all the routes available for your case.
Does Educa Guarantee Scholarships?

Valid identification: a current passport or an official ID accepted in your country

Recent photograph: must match the photo uploaded during registration
Approved calculator: calculators are allowed throughout the Math section of the Digital SAT (e.g., approved graphing models from TI, Casio, or HP)

Do You Work Only with Top-Performing Students, or Also with Diverse Profiles?
At Educa College Prep, we support students with a wide range of academic profiles. We do not work exclusively with high-achieving students, but also with those who demonstrate strengths in areas such as leadership, the arts, sports, or social impact projects.
An advanced level of English is essential, since all the universities we recommend offer programs in English and require international standardized exams such as TOEFL or IELTS. This requirement is key to beginning the application process, as it ensures that students can compete successfully against international applicants.
Our role is to build the best possible admissions strategy for each student, highlighting their strengths and helping them address areas for improvement. With this approach, we have guided both academically top-performing students and those with more diverse backgrounds who, through strategic preparation, have also gained admission to highly competitive universities.

SAT Exam
Is It Mandatory To Take The SAT Exam?
The SAT is one of the main international admissions requirements for pursuing an undergraduate degree in the United States. At many universities—especially the most prestigious ones and those in states such as Florida or Georgia—taking the SAT is mandatory. At others, under a test-optional policy, it is not formally required; however, statistics show that applicants who submit a strong Digital SAT score have a higher probability of being admitted.
The SAT is not limited to the United States. An increasing number of universities worldwide accept it as part of their admissions process. Today, institutions in Europe (including Spain and Italy) and other regions allow the SAT to be submitted as a replacement for their own entrance exams. In 2024, nearly 2 million students took the SAT, making it the most widely recognized university admissions exam globally.
For this reason, although it may appear optional in some cases, taking the SAT is highly recommended and, in practice, almost essential to maximize your chances of admission to competitive universities both in the United States and abroad. At Educa College Prep, leaders in SAT Prep in Latin America, we help you prepare strategically to achieve top scores.
Want to know whether taking the SAT is right for you? Schedule a free SAT evaluation with our team.
What SAT Score Should I Aim For?
The SAT is not a pass/fail exam, and there is no universal minimum score. What is considered a “good SAT score” depends entirely on the universities you plan to apply to.
As a reference, the global average SAT score in 2024 was approximately 1050 out of 1600. However, more selective universities expect significantly higher results. Below are recent SAT score ranges for admitted students (25th–75th percentiles) according to U.S. News 2025:
● University of Pennsylvania (Top 10 in the U.S.) → average 1540 (range
1500–1570)
● Georgetown University (Top 25 in the U.S.) → average 1480 (range 1390–1530)
● Lehigh University (Top 50 in the U.S.) → average 1430 (range 1370–1480)
● Temple University (Top 100 in the U.S.) → average 1240 (range 1160–1370)
These figures show that a competitive SAT score can significantly strengthen your chances at Top 100 U.S. universities, while admission to elite institutions typically requires scores close to 1500+.
At Educa College Prep, leaders in SAT Prep in Latin America, we help our students improve by an average of +230 points compared to their diagnostic test, reaching scores that place them within the admissions ranges of the world’s most competitive universities.

What Is the Digital SAT Like?
Since March 2023, the Digital SAT has been administered in person on a computer worldwide. The math section allows the use of a calculator throughout the entire exam.
The structure of the Digital SAT includes:
● Reading & Writing: 64 minutes, divided into two 32-minute modules
● Math: 70 minutes, divided into two 35-minute modules
● Break: 10 minutes between sections
At Educa College Prep, our course is 100% updated to the Digital SAT. We offer the most comprehensive SAT Prep program in Latin America, with students who achieve Top 1% scores worldwide every year, thanks to a methodology fully aligned with the current digital format.
Prepare with our updated SAT Prep program and work toward your best possible score.
When Should I Start Preparing for the SAT?
The best time to begin preparing for the SAT is at the start of the second-to-last year of high school (Grade 11 or equivalent). Starting at this stage ensures enough time to strengthen math and English skills, practice with realistic mock exams, and learn how to manage time pressure in the Digital SAT.
A solid SAT preparation process typically takes 6 to 12 months. If a student waits until their final year of high school, it is still possible to achieve a competitive score, but the margin becomes tighter: the student must accelerate SAT prep while balancing academic coursework and the international college application process.
At Educa College Prep, leaders in SAT Prep in Latin America, we recommend starting early to ensure maximum performance. Our students who prepare for 6 to 12 months achieve average improvements of +230 points and are fully prepared to compete for spots at elite universities in the United States, Europe, and beyond.
Find out whether you are on track. Speak with a counselor and build a plan tailored to your academic schedule.
What Is the Difference Between the SAT and the ACT?
The SAT and the ACT are the two most well-known standardized college admissions exams in the United States. Both are accepted by virtually all universities, but there are important differences between them:
● Duration: The Digital SAT lasts 2 hours and 14 minutes, while the ACT lasts close
to 3 hours.
● Sections: The SAT focuses on Reading, Writing, and Math; the ACT also includes
a Science section, making it longer.
● Question style: The SAT emphasizes reasoning and time management, while the
ACT has more questions in less time, making it faster-paced and more demanding
in terms of speed.
● Scoring: The SAT is scored on a 1600-point scale; the ACT on a 36-point scale.
For most Latin American students, the SAT tends to be more accessible because it covers fewer content areas and its new digital version is more user-friendly, interactive, and adaptive, reducing perceived difficulty. In addition, the SAT is the preferred exam in Latin America—not only due to familiarity with the content, but also because an increasing number of universities in the U.S., Europe, and other countries accept it as part of their admissions requirements.
At Educa College Prep, we specialize in SAT Prep in Latin America, with 15 years of experience helping students achieve competitive scores that open the doors to elite universities.

How does the SAT help you obtain merit-based scholarships?
A high SAT score can unlock merit-based scholarships that significantly reduce the total cost of university. Many institutions in the United States and around the world offer automatic or competitive scholarships to international students whose SAT scores are above the average of admitted applicants.
For example:
A score at or above the 75th percentile can open access to scholarships covering 25% to 100% of tuition.
Public universities in the U.S. and mid- to upper-tier private universities often grant substantial tuition discounts to international students with outstanding SAT scores, even without requiring separate scholarship applications.
Many universities in Europe and Asia also recognize the SAT exam as a criterion for awarding merit-based academic scholarships.
At Educa College Prep, we have supported students who, thanks to exceptional SAT scores, have earned full scholarships, contributing to more than US$55 million in scholarships awarded in recent years.
Schedule a Consultation Today and Discover How a Strong SAT Score Can Open the Door to Merit-Based Scholarships at Universities Around the World.
How Much Does It Cost to Take the SAT in Latin America?
The SAT exam has a base registration fee of US$68. For students taking the exam outside the United States, an additional international fee of US$43 applies, bringing the total cost to US$111 per exam.
Other possible additional costs include:
Late registration: an additional US$30-40, depending on the date
Changes to the test center or test date: an administrative fee of approximately US$25
It is important to note that each time you take the SAT, the exam fee must be paid again.
Beyond teaching content, at Educa College Prep, we provide the strategy and training you need to perform at your best on the SAT.
Schedule a Free Consultation and Start Preparing with Confidence.
Does the SAT Score Expire?
SAT scores do not expire: they are permanently recorded by the College Board and can be accessed at any time. Once you take the Digital SAT, your results become part of your academic history indefinitely.
However, many universities in the United States and abroad prefer recent scores, generally from the last 2–3 years. This does not mean your score becomes invalid; it can still be used for transfer applications or if you decide to apply to another institution after starting your studies.
Taking the SAT on time not only helps with your initial undergraduate application but also serves as a strategic backup for future international academic opportunities. At Educa College Prep, leaders in SAT Prep in Latin America, we guide students to achieve competitive scores that can be leveraged throughout their university journey.

Application process
Why Is It Important to Start the University Application Process Early?
Starting the international university application process early is key to standing out among thousands of applicants. Universities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom value not only recent academic results but also the student’s achievements over several previous years.
Starting early allows you to:
Choose strategic courses (IB, A-Levels, AP) that strengthen your academic profile.
Develop extracurricular activities, leadership roles, or projects that make your application stand out.
Prepare standardized exams such as the SAT, TOEFL, or IELTS in a calm and structured way.
Anticipate scholarship and financial aid deadlines, which are often strict.
While some students wait until their final year, early planning opens more opportunities and reduces the pressure of the process. At Educa College Prep, we help you plan your university admission with the necessary foresight to maximize your chances of success.
Start planning your international university future today: schedule a free consultation with Educa.
How Competitive Are International Admissions, and How Can I Increase My Chances?
International admissions to elite universities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom are highly competitive. Each year, institutions like Harvard, Stanford, and Yale receive over 50,000 applications from students around the world, with acceptance rates ranging from 3% to 7%. Even selective mid-tier universities can have acceptance rates between 20% and 30%, meaning thousands of qualified applicants are not admitted.
To stand out in such a demanding environment, it is essential to:
Start early: preparing during the last two years of high school, or even earlier, allows students to strengthen both their academic and extracurricular profile.
Achieve competitive standardized test scores: strong SAT and TOEFL/IELTS results can make a decisive difference in global admissions.
Build a differentiated profile: leadership roles, social projects, sports, or arts that demonstrate sustained and meaningful impact.
Design a solid application strategy: selecting a balanced mix of reach, match, and safety universities ensures a well-rounded portfolio of options.
Prepare authentic essays: personal statements and application essays that convey motivation, achievements, and potential uniquely.
At Educa College Prep, we have guided over 3200 Latin American students, achieving 100% success in international admissions and over $55 million in scholarships awarded. Our Admission Counseling is designed to maximize your opportunities in highly selective processes.

How Is the List of Ideal Universities Created for Each Student?
You don’t need to know in advance which universities to apply to. At Educa College Prep, our role as counselors is to build a personalized list of universities that fit your academic profile, interests, and life goals.
The process begins with a detailed analysis of each student: we review grades, courses, extracurricular activities, and personal and professional interests. With this information, we design an international application strategy that can include universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, and other destinations.
When selecting universities, we consider key factors such as:
Academic level and admission requirements.
Areas of study and available programs.
Location, language, climate, and lifestyle.
Admission pathway: regular decision, early decision, early action, honor programs, transfer programs, or foundation programs with gradual access.
Family budget and access to scholarships (financial aid and merit scholarships).
Real chances of admission: reach, match, and safety universities.
This approach ensures that each student has a balanced portfolio of options, significantly increasing their chances of being admitted to elite institutions and obtaining international scholarships.
Build your strategic university list with our expert team: schedule a free consultation.
What Documents Do I Need to Prepare to Apply to International Universities?
The international admissions process requires much more than just filling out a form. While each university has specific requirements, most request the following documents:
Academic transcripts: Grades from the last years of high school or secondary education. Some universities also request the class ranking.
Standardized tests: The Digital SAT is required or recommended by many of the most prestigious universities. Additionally, most require proof of English proficiency through the TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic.
Essays and personal statements: Written pieces that demonstrate authenticity, strengths, and motivations. These are critical to stand out among thousands of applicants.
Letters of recommendation: Typically 2 to 3, usually from teachers or school counselors, highlighting both academic achievements and personal qualities or leadership.
Extracurricular activities and achievements: A list of relevant experiences (sports, volunteering, projects, entrepreneurship) that show impact and sustained commitment.
Financial documents, such as the CSS Profile or family income statements, are required to evaluate financial aid or scholarship options.
Other requirements by country or program: Virtual interviews, program-specific tests, or foundation programs that offer gradual access to the university.
At Educa College Prep, we guide each student in preparing these documents and design a strategy to ensure that all materials present a coherent and powerful version of the applicant’s profile.
Organize your documents in advance and strengthen your application: schedule a meeting with an Educa counselor.
How Does the Admission Counseling Strategy Work During the Application Process?
The Admission Counseling strategy at Educa College Prep is designed to help each student present their best version throughout the international application process. Our guidance covers every key stage:
1. Strategic university selection: We build a personalized list that aligns with the student’s academic profile, interests, family budget, and possible admission pathways (direct entry, foundation programs, transfers, honors programs), maximizing acceptance opportunities.
2. Essays and personal statements: We guide the student through the entire writing cycle—from ideation (discovering unique experiences and motivations), to review (ensuring clarity and coherence), to final editing (polishing style and grammar). The result: authentic essays that convey strengths and aspirations memorably.
3. Extracurricular activities: We advise on how to present academic, sports, or leadership projects strategically, highlighting impact and consistency. When the process begins early, we suggest concrete improvements to further strengthen the profile.

Can I Apply to More Than One University at the Same Time?
Yes. In the international admission process, it is common—and strategic—to apply to multiple universities simultaneously. Most students apply to 8 to 12 universities, since each institution has its own requirements, acceptance rates, and scholarship policies.
In countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, there are centralized platforms such as Common App or UCAS, which allow you to submit multiple applications at once. However, each university evaluates your profile independently: essays, recommendation letters, SAT scores, and English proficiency tests (TOEFL or IELTS).
At Educa College Prep, we design a personalized strategy that includes: reach universities (highly competitive), target universities (strong fit), and likely universities (more attainable). This ensures a balanced portfolio of admission options and international scholarships, maximizing your chances without compromising the quality of each application.

United Kingdom and Canada: between US$35,000 and US$70,000 per year, with differences depending on the city, program, and type of university.
